Pop and Hip-hop seems to be turning to hits of the 80’s to make “New” ones in the 2000’s.

The current generation is lacking in the creativity that goes into making hit songs, and is reaching out to once hits in the 80s to bring the current generation up to speed.

But is this really talent, or just lazyness from the producers and song writers alike?

Just as fashion seems to be bringing back styles such as acid washed jeans, flannel and bright neon clothing, the music industry is bringing back beats and lyrics from once famous songs.

Artists like Flo Rida, Chamillionaire and Jordin Sparks have been borrowing songs from the 80’s to create a new feeling to past songs.

Jordin Sparks new single, “S.O.S (Let the music play) uses Shannon’s (let the music play) in its chorus, with the same lyrics and melody, with a change of one word (get the groove instead of let): “Let the music play/He wont get away/ just get the groove/ And he’ll come back to you again”

While Chamillionaire’s “Good Morning” samples Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin” throughout the entire song. Although he doesn’t use any of the exact lyrics, the melody and words Free Fallin are said throughout the duration of the song.

It seems as if artists are running out of material and find it easier to sample melodies and lyrics from past songs instead of creating new ones. but the question is, are we really running out of creativity to the point where we are forced to use once already produced hits?

Originality is held in the eye of the beholder , take a listen and make the decision for yourself.
